What is a press-fit connector?
The press-fit card edge connector allows a mechanical and electrical connection, without soldering. Press-fit card edge connector are pressed through holes on a printed circuit board (PCB). This principle is an alternative to soldering and offers a lot of advantages over its more conventional counterpart. By using press-fit connectors, you will eliminate negative points that come along with soldering: thermal stress on the PCB, solder joints, shorts (caused by solder bridging), and the elimination of lead-free solder. Press-fit card edge connector are also easily repaired, more eco-friendly, and cost effective.
Engineering options.
We can find different types of press-fit connectors that include those with solid pins and compliant pins. The solid pin will not deform during the insertion on the PCB. The compliant pin will compress during insertion that put less pressure on the PCB and less force is needed for the insertion.
